Selecting Monitor Hardware

 
 

When selecting a Video Input for DirectorMonitor the choice can be based on existing equipment and the needs of the event or studio. The below comparison is an attempt to aid in the selection or upgrade to be considered. Each device type has been tested and each device has its advantages and disadvantage as denoted below. All tested hardware has nearly equivalent image quality. each is small and lightweight. The below distinguishes the primary differences between the devices

DirectorMonitor works without having a Video In Source. The Various features such as HomeKit, Control Board, Action Buttons, ATEM Mini and HyperDeck function without a video input source. Obviously the monitor in DirectorMonitor indicates that the App works best with a Video In source connected.

 

AccSoon SeeMo

Pros:

  • Works with iPhone and iPad, Lightning and USB C

  • Works with Accsoon’s Cage accessories

  • Wireless streaming to another DirectorMonitor session running on another iPad, iPhone or Mac

  • Has an both an HDMI and SDI version

  • Charges the iPad

Cons

  • Does not work with when connected through a USB Hub

  • Battery power required

  • No Sound Output

  • Cannot use External Monitor because the USB C connection is in use

 

External Camera

Pros:

  • Small

  • Very Inexpensive

  • Sound Can be enaabled

  • Can Connect to a USB C Hub

Cons

  • Requires iPad with USB C connection,, Lightening and Mac not compatible

  • Requires iPadOS 17 and later

 

Shared Video

Pros

  • Great to add additional devices with additionall Hardware cost

Cons:

  • Requires a strong network connection

  • Compatible with Accsoon SeeMo and External Camera

  • Not as reliable as a dedicated hardware connection.

  • No Sound Output

 

Febon UVC

Pros

  • Very relaiable

  • Works with iPhone and iPad, Lightning and USB C

  • Can connect directly to a Mac

  • Can Connect to a USB C Hub

Cons:

  • Expensive

  • Requires a connection to a USB to HDMI dongle, the same as above for External camera.

  • Requires external power via USB C

  • All the wires can be bothersome

  • No Sound Output

  • Does not support Picture in Picture

The choice is yours but they are all excellent options.
